"Birch Trees"
It's here again.  Exhibition Season.  March is the month that so many shows have deadlines for exhibiting.  I guess the spring season brings out the exhibitionist in us.  I have 7 I want to enter and if I get in, it'll keep me busy for the next few months running around NC delivering and picking up paintings, not to mention trying to attend the receptions (people like to talk to the artists).  Western Wake Artist Studio Tour is Mar. 28 and 29th.  See the events page for more details. The reception for that and Cary Gallery's Small Treasures and FALC Jordan Hall show is Mar. 27th.  Guess you know I'll try to make an appearance at all.  Although the landscape is still barren, spring is just around the corner.  Daffodils are blooming and so are the flowering trees.  Can't wait to get out and paint en plein air...soon, I hope.

Looking forward to Spring

Girls Night Out, Ruby
We've been spoiled in North Carolina. Several days of 70 degree temperatures have made us think it's almost spring.  They're predicting snow flurries tonight. Winter hasn't released us from it's grip yet.  The flowering cherry trees don't know that.  Fooled by the sunny, warm weather, they started blooming.  I need to get out and paint before the frost gets them.  I started a new series of paintings inspired by a pair of red, satin shoes.  A painter friend and I set them up in a still life and started painting.  The new series is "Girls Night Out".  Mostly shoes, a wine glass and some beads.  They are great fun to paint with the looseness that comes with alla prima painting with acrylics. The galleries love them.  Let's see if the public responds as well.
