Figure Eight Morning
Just returned from another exciting workshop with Rick McClure from Oklahoma City. I've taken workshops with him before but everytime he has a new focus. I always walk away with new information that improves my work. This time Rick drove home the point of aerial perspective...how to make horizontal planes lay down by making changes in value and temperature. He did this in the block in stage. We went much further in the block in stage than merely doing shape paintings.
We were most fortunate to be allowed to paint on Figure Eight Island and the October weather was more like late August. Warm and sunny. On day 2, we painted at Wrightsville Beach and at a favorite coastal location. Again, it was almost hot at the beach. We paid for it on day 3. It was rainy and windy but we persevered on the wide porches of the Carolina Yacht Club at Wrightsville Beach. It pays to have members of these exclusive clubs/islands in the group.
It was a great group of artists, supportive of each other and as always, Rick is a good teacher. His show at Fountainside Gallery is wonderful too.
